Not all the people use Gmail for chatting purpose, even sometimes I do not want to use that chat option in Gmail. If you are the person who wants to use Gmail only for mailing purpose and do not want to use the chatting feature in Gmail then there is a simple setting on Gmail which will disable the chat option. This setting permanently disables the chat option on your Gmail account rather than just hiding the chat box. However whenever you want your chat option back you can change the setting again to get it back.
Procedure to disable chat option in Gmail
1. At first login to your Gmail account.
2. Go to Settings page and Navigate to the Chat tab. You can directly use this link to navigate to the chat option.

3. Click on the “Chat off” radio button to disable the chat option. (Whenever you want your chat back click on the “Chat on” radio button) Save the settings, that’s all now the chat is completely disabled from Gmail.
