Are you tired of reading webpages? Really sometimes it is very difficult to read webpages for long time. But if you are a Google chrome user you can feel relax and can get rid of reading webpages, yes now you can listen to the webpages on chrome browser.

Google chrome has added an inbuilt TTS engine using which speech extensions for chrome can speak the webpages. Using this chrome TTS API developers can build extensions which can speak out the webpages.

Here I would like to talk about one such extension which can speak out the selected text on a webpage called SpeakIt. You can select the paragraph on a webpage which you want to listen and start the SpeakIt and you will be able to listen to the text on the webpage. It would be even better if you use a head phone while listening to webpages. As Google’s network TTS has inbuilt capability to auto detect any language so it can read those languages which are supported by Google. I tried it with Chinese and Hindi which worked like a magic.

How to listen to webpages with SpeakIt?

Using SpeakIt is really very easy, jut select the texts on the webpage and click on the SpeakIt icon on your chrome browser. That’s all now you can listen to the webpage. If you want to take rest you can pause the SpeakIt by clicking on the running icon and resume it whenever you want.

SpeakIt Chrome Extension

Now comes the configuration part, it can be configured to use the SpeakIt voice or the native voice of your operating system. You can also download different voice for SpeakIt. This is quite different than other TTS engines as you can feel a great clarity over the voice and would be difficult to distinguish the voice with human voice. This is indeed a great tool for those who wants to get rid of reading webpages for long time.
