Say you are unhappy with your current job, and you are considering a career change, what would that be? You’ve probably thought about this a lot or even have some paths you would try exploring, but the start is somehow blurry and you don’t know where to begin this quest. Here’s an idea: why not start blogging?

You may ask how’s blogging a beginning of a new career path. Well, being a blogger you have an opportunity to write about a certain industry you are well familiar with, state your views and opinions on topics related to the field, attend conferences or interview experts, and express your particular skills and knowledge that’ll maybe get the attention of those in your chosen field who may even want to hire you. If your blogging takes you to a completely new area you are not familiar with but would like to further explore, you can do that too and possibly change your career.

If I got your interest, here are few things blogging experts recommend:

Know What Your Goal Is

You can blog about absolutely anything you want, but if you want your blog to be successful and work for you, you need to set a goal, figure out the topics you’ll write about, and the keywords you’ll focus on in your posts.

Define Your Business Model and Target Audience Before You Start

To have a successful blog you need to identify your audience and target their interests and questions when writing. Your readers will only come back for more if you are able to give them the answers they search for. Also, make sure you’re clear about what you want from your blog, whether it is getting paid, or getting a job out of it.

Blog Regularly

You need to write and publish your work on schedule if you want to get more readers finding their way to your blog and reading your content. The more fresh and unique content you have, and the more popular keywords for your category you use in your writing, the better your rank with Google will be, and that’s the goal of every blogger, and pretty much of everybody else.

Don’t be Afraid to Contact and Interview Well-known Experts in Your Industry, Even though You are a Newbie

No matter the subject you are blogging about, you should always strive to get and publish interviews with eminent experts in your respective sector. Be persistent, approach them with confidence, and be clear, brief and to the point about why you’re contacting them. You shouldn’t get hung up thinking what to write about. With one interview you can come up with enough content to fill 3 or 4 blog posts, and as you read and write about your interests you’ll become more of an expert yourself in time.

Don’t Forget The Link Building

Blogging is about sharing. You need to find relevant websites with useful content for your industry, searching Google or Facebook for starters, and network with them to establish mutually beneficial relationship where you’ll both feature each other’s content. Link building is very important and strategic and consistent way of doing it will only be beneficial for the success of your blog.

Help Your Readers Get the Information They Need

When managing your blog you should always be guided by the problems and questions your target audience has at the moment. You need to provide a service for them in the form of information and problem-solving. If you don’t have the answers find who has them. This approach will guide your interviewing efforts and help you address the right issues in your new sector.

Be Social

Having a social media strategy for your blog can be essential for its success. You need to get the word out about each one of your posts. You can connect your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts and share the updates automatically on all three networks, promote your posts, invite conversation among your readers, participate in discussions, respond to readers’ comments, update your statuses, and this will all result in increased traffic to your blog.
