Fix “Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” Error in Windows 7

Have you ever got this error “Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” while trying to install a program on Windows 7 This may happen when you try to install program that uses msi file as installer. This might be a result of corrupt registry of msiexec.exe program which handles the msi installer programs on Windows 7. But here is a solution to fix this “Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” error.

How To Fix “Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” Error in Windows 7

For 64 bit Windows 7

If you have a 64 bit Windows then follow the below steps, else follow the 32 bit Windows section which is below this section.

Step 1: First click on the start menu and type cmd.exe in the search box and hit enter. This will open the command prompt.

Step 2: in the command prompt type the below command and hit enter.

%windir%\\system32\\msiexec.exe /unregister

This will unregister the msiexec.exe file in the C:\Windows\system32 directory.

Step 3: Type the below command in the command prompt to re-register the program.

%windir%\\system32\\msiexec.exe /regserver

Step 4: Type the below command to unregister the msiexec.exe program from Windows\syswow64 directory.

%windir%\\syswow64\\msiexec.exe /unregister

Step 5: Type the below command and hit enter to re-register the program in Windows\syswow64 directory.

%windir%\\syswow64\\msiexec.exe /regserver

Step 6: Type exit and in the command prompt and hit enter to exit the command prompt. Now reboot your system.

This will fix the issue, now you can install the program that uses msi installer without having any issues.

For 32 bit Windows 7

Follow the below instructions to fix the issue in Windows 32 bit OS.

Step 1: Open the command prompt as it was described above.

Step 2: Type the below command and hit enter to unregister the program.

msiexec /unregister

Step 3: Type the below command and hit enter to re-register the service.

msiexec /regserver

Step 4: Exit the command prompt and Reboot your system.

Now your issue should have been fixed, try to install the program.
