How to Reduce Bounce Rate 20+ Tips

In My last post I discussed about the “Bounce Rate” and why it is important for your website. If your website has a high bounce rate then you need to seriously start working on your website to decrease the bounce rate. If you do not take it seriously very soon you will lose your visitor base. According to some studies a bounce rate of 30% and less is ok, but a bounce rate of 60% and more is very bad for your website. So today we will discuss how you can reduce the bounce rate on your website.


How to reduce Bounce rate 



1.  Web Layout and Design

Good Website layout is most important thing in keeping your visitors on your web site. The look of your site forces the visitors to stay on your site. For bloggers you should be always careful in choosing your theme, you should be careful when you are selecting Magazine style or normal layout theme. If you have a normal theme you should be careful that the layout is proper and all links are visible clearly visible. In case of Magazine style theme you should be careful that all your content is perfectly reflected. Your header should not take too much space from top; header should be maximum of120px.


2.    Relevant Content

Write only relevant content on your site or blog. If you have a blog related to technology, then post content only related to technology, do not post content other than technology as your site visitors will expect only articles related to technology, nobody would like to read something related general news on a technical blog.


3.    Proper and Clear Navigation links

Give proper and clear navigation on your site or blog. If possible use breadcrumb on your pages and let the users know that where they are. Clear visibility of navigation links attracts the visitors to know more about your site. Give relevant and proper name to the links.


4.    Content

Provide proper and relevant content on your web site or blog. Content is the power of any website or blog. If there is no proper and genuine content on your web site or blow, visitors will not be interested on your site. Try to give always original content.


5.    Update your content on regular basis

It is very much important that you update your content on regular basis, this will make sure that with time you have updated content and it will make your visitors happy to visit your site.


6.    Improve the loading speed

Always try to improve the loading speed of your site. You can use the caching solution to improve your site loading. Often the slower loading sites have higher bounce rate. Visitors always want a speed loading site.


7.    Good and relevant images

Use only good and relevant images with your content. Do not use irrelevant images as a good visual creates the first impression.


8.    Keep it simple and clean

Always keep your site simple and clean. Simple look and feel means clear visibility and hence the visitors get a clear vision of your site.


9.    Avoid External links

Always try to avoid providing external links unless until it is highly required. Where ever you are providing external link open it in a new window or tab.


10.  Remove lot of Popups and full page ads

Do not use lot of popups in all places. Use popups only when required like you can provide a popup to sign up for feed or free newsletter. Avoid using full page ads.


11.  Popular Posts Link

Provide a side bar for popular posts link and it should be clearly visible to the visitors. Try to put it on a right sidebar just below the header.


12.  Related Post Link

Provide related post link on the end of every post or article, so that users will see it and they will have interest to see the related topics.


13.  Conduct Polls

Provide a poll bar on your site. This engages the visitor to see the poll and put their vote against the poll. Try to create poll of latest contents.


14.  Summary of Post on Home page

Provide only the summary of the post on the home page. This assures that all your posts are clearly visible on the home page.


15.  Provide Search Box on Top of site

Provide a search box on the top of the site so that it is clearly visible. If the user can’t find a related link they will have an option to search the content.


16.  Increase the font size

You can increase your site font size a bit if it is too small. Font size of the links should be more, so that is clearly visible.


17. Use the language of the target audience

Try to use the language of your targeted audience. This will increase the confidence of your visitors on your site and they will try to explore your site more.


18.  Find the pages with high bounce rate

Try to find the pages with high bounce rate and investigate what the problem is. If you are unable to find show it to your friends and ask them to give their feedback and work on those feedbacks.


19.  Place Good and important posts at top

Try to place the good and important posts link at top, this increase the chances of visiting the link.


20.  Do not use auto play videos

Do not use auto play videos on your web site, if you are using it try to remove those auto play videos. If you have an auto play video which produces sounds of uninteresting then visitors will immediately click back button.


21.  Improve your keywords

Try to use only relevant key words on your posts. Irrelevant key words will lead your visitor to leave your site. So try to find only relevant key words and use them.


22.  Avoid use of Splashing pages

Avoid use of splashing pages on your site. When a visitor enters your site and find a splashing page at that point it self they leave your site as it creates a bad impression.


23.  Use adds on proper places

Use advertises on proper places; do not fill your page with lot of advertisement inside the content or article. Use maximum of 2 adds inside your posts.
