Nowadays, many people are running blogs either for personal or business purposes. However, starting a blog is one thing. Maintaining a loyal audience is another thing altogether. Here are some guidelines which will help you building a loyal audience for your blog.

1. Special promotions

One of the most simple and cost-effective strategies for enhancing reader loyalty is through promotions and contests. This can be a great way of appreciating people who visit your blog frequently or comment actively. The best thing about blog contests is that you don’t have to offer expensive prizes to winners. The prize could be as basic as a free eBook, free software or complimentary services. Winners can be picked using different methods including reader votes, blog post submissions or simply random selection. You need to ensure that the selection method used is fair so as to maintain your credibility with readers.

2. Listen to your readers

Paying attention to what your readers want can be a very effective strategy for building reader loyalty. For instance, if visitors want more information after reading a particular post, it would be advisable to respond to their queries. As you interact with your readers and answer their questions, they will feel valued and will be more likely to return to your blog.

3. Offer your readers solutions

Many new bloggers make the mistake of bombarding their readers with a sales pitch in every blog post. However, this approach is counter-productive and only ends up putting off the readers. Instead of always trying to sell a product or service, you need to focus on offering your readers solutions to their problems. You can either address specific topics in your niche or simply respond to your reader’s queries. When your blog becomes a valuable resource, people will keep returning over and over again.

4. Initiate discussions

Don’t act as if you have all the answers. One of the best ways of enhancing reader loyalty is by encouraging people to share their thoughts on your blog. Make sure every blog post is written in a conversational tone which provokes readers to share their views and comments. Besides leaving comments, you could also invite people to submit full-length guest posts which would be helpful to other readers.

5. Edit your posts

First impressions are very important. Whether you are running blog for business or personal purposes, you would want to leave your visitors with a good impression of your blog or business. If your blog is filled with all kinds of errors, you are likely to lose a section of your audience. This is why it is important to pay attention to details such as the formatting and grammar of your content. You need to ensure that all your posts have correct grammar and well-spelt words. Don’t use technical terms which are likely to confuse your readers. Re-check your posts before allowing them to go live.

6. Use a reader-friendly layout

You can make your text more reader-friendly by breaking it up using design elements or special formatting. Charts, bullet lists, photos, graphs and bold headings can help make your content more presentable to readers. However, avoid using adverts which would distract readers from your content. Adverts such as pop-ups are likely to annoy visitors and drive them away from your blog.
